The Afro-Caribbean Association of Manitoba, ACAM, was founded in 1968 and since has been consistently and extensively involved in Manitoba’s Black communities. Over the years ACAM has changed in many ways but has remained committed to the goal of promoting and developing a sense of unity and community spirit among Black peoples.

Since its inception ACAM has successfully organized the Africa/Caribbean Pavilion, a weeklong showcase for Folklorama, Winnipeg’s annual cultural festival. In recent years annual events such as Harambee, a dinner theatre, and ACAM’s Job Fair continue to illustrate the organization’s evolution. ACAM remains committed to Manitoba’s Black communities and will continue to support their growth.

The Mission & Objectives Of This Association Are:

  • To educate, inform, and provide compelling information to members and non-members.
  • To inspire civic pride with regard to cultural and social activities in the Caribbean and African communities.
  • To promote cultural awareness in our children so that they will understand and appreciate their own culture in its totality.
  • To promote a sense of continued harmony and camaraderie among African and Caribbean people.
  • To provide support and assistance where possible to members and people of African and Caribbean descent.
